LEWI LONGMIRE +

THE LEFT COAST ROASTERS

FRIDAY, APRIL 17TH

Lewi Longmire is an inductee of the Oregon Music Hall of Fame and a longtime friend and favorite of The Gov Cup. His roster of musical brilliance includes the likes of Kassi Valazza, TK & The Holy-Know Nothings, and John Craigie. Lewi Longmire and The Left Coast Roasters owes much to the American tradition of good songs played with high energy, deep roots, and an unpretentious sense of fun. Their sound finds the connection between the basement feel of The Band, the raspy blue-eyed soul of Joe Cocker, the desert space of Giant Sand, the "without a net" deep space improvisations of the San Francisco ballrooms, the punk abandon of The Stooges and the quiet contemplation of Neil Young playing solo.

Joining Lewi is a lineup of Portland greats - Ned Folkerth on drums and vocals (Kassi Valazza), Bill Rudolph on bass and vocals (Crackpots and Little Sue), Dan Eccles on guitar (Fernando).

MBRASCATU

SATURDAY, MAY 2ND

Born from the rich, cultural heart of Southern Italy and matured in the United States, Mbrascatu (mm-brah-ska-too) is the product of Andrea Algieri and some of the west coast’s finest musicians. While the music is not locked into any one regional sound, the diverse and global influences can all be heard in how Algieri organically blends styles. Thoughtful ballads, intense rock, and infectious, danceable grooves are at the core of the band’s sonic identity - coupled with Andrea’s warm, baritone voice and soloists with backgrounds in rock, funk, jazz, classical, folk, and more, the resultant sound is something not often seen in today’s musical landscape. The heartfelt messages contained within the sensitive lyrics translate across cultural and linguistic divides, and the panoramic storytelling conveyed within each song takes the listener on a journey through both, a world they know dearly and one they are just discovering.

Having performed across the United States and throughout the most beautiful regions of Italy, Mbrascatu has been welcomed with open arms in just about every language and every culture. Their four studio albums (Mbrascatu, Tempo, Elementi, and Tutto Cambia) have been received with astounding praise and their frequent live appearances are met with equal enthusiasm.

THMPR

FRIDAY, MAY 8TH

THMPR is a Portland-based experimental and improvisational music project that specializes in capturing moments of communion with the muse and instantly translating it right in front of your eyes and ears. They have shared the stage with other prominently audacious performers such as Mike Dillon with Nolatet, Sexmob and Skerik, all the while building a devoted base for their quirky, live exploration in sound. Their unique brand compels you through avant garde jazz and funk, to melodic bliss and atmospheric noise that culminate into crescendos of chaos and madness until finally delivering you to your own planet of peace.

Yet, in December of 2017, tragedy struck as their beloved leader Ralph Carney (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, B52's) passed away unexpectedly. It was an overwhelming loss for the group, and it was quickly acknowledged how pervasive his spirit was in the musical community. THMPR joined with thousands across the world in celebrating his legacy.

With Ralph Huntley, Count Kellam, Jason Carter (Black Francis, Frank Black), Tom Nunes (Freedy Johnston, Red Ray Frazier) and Steve Berlin (Los Lobos) now at the helm, THMPR continues their experimental and instantaneous compositional creations in Ralph’s honor.
